I have been on Pinterest for almost 1 year. My sister first “introduced” me to Pinterest, and I did not get it! I did not get the point. Now that I do I don’t know how my homeschool life would be without it! ![]()
In the past, when researching for homeschool, or looking for craft ideas I would try to organize what I found using my browsers bookmarks. This never worked!! When I finally came back to my list of bookmarks, I never remembered what they were and did not have the time to click on each one to find out! I tried categorizing the list, but that didn’t really work.
Pinterest has solved this problem. I just can’t say enough about it!
Browsing through Pinterest is fun and finding ideas you never thought of is exciting, but the whole point of it is to use the ideas, right? I have spent so many months archiving great ideas on my boards and never got around to actually doing them, until last month!
December 2012 was my own Pinterest month! Not sure why, but I got around to doing several of the projects I have found there.
New Years Eve was a big one! Usually for New Year’s we either don’t do anything special or just get together with friends and hang out. I am NOT a party planner so I’ve never really had any organized activities for the kids. Pinterest changed that for us this year, though!
We started our “party” at about 8pm. We had balloons up on the wall labeled with the time (8:00pm, 8:30pm etc). Every half hour the boys and their friend would pop a balloon and in it find a piece of paper that would let them know what the activity would be for the next 30 minutes.
I actually planned a party!!!
Activities included making a Snowman with shaving cream and glue (this one is so cool!!), baking and decorating cookies, calling Grandma (Abuela) and saying Happy New Year. At 11:30pm our final activity was making a noise maker. My favorite was filling out a Time Capsule printable. I asked the boys questions about themselves and the past year. We put these away with the Christmas decorations and will be pulling these out and reading them next year! It will be so fun seeing how they have changed and grown in one year!
One of the things with being resourceful is that it can be overwhelming sometimes. There are so many great things to do and new ideas, but you can’t do everything. I will try to be better at using the ideas I find on Pinterest! Even if it’s only 1 idea a week.
What has been your favorite thing you have done from Pinterest?

I LOVE PINTEREST!! <3 It's SO much fun!! I'm using it mostly this year to plan our holidays, like you did New Year! We're so so so bad and planning and carrying through on our holidays, I'm hoping to change that this year and have a lot of fun doing it!
Good luck!! Ive learned yo pick the simple activities. I think most of the times Im too ambitious when I pick activities on Pinterest, and then rnd up not doing anything.
