We finished our lessons for the day…Im sitting by the window writing while the boys play and the baby sleeps. I need a nap!! 🙂
About a month ago we started our trip around the World! This “trip” will probably take us most of the year. For 2-3 weeks at a time we will be learning about a different country and this week we are on our way to Mexico!
We just completed Canada and it went well. We read many books about Canada, fiction and non-fiction. We did our first Lapbook for this study and it really helped. I found a great site with free Lapbook resources, and for someone who is not artistically inclined, it was more than helpful. The best part about it is that I found a pen pal with the help of some friends. She lives in Toronto. This is a great way to make it more personal but also to sneak in some Language Arts and Handwriting 😉
We started Mexico today and I’m hoping to do some things differently. I took too long on the Canada study and it sort of dragged on toward the end. I will use the Lapbook as a way to help me keep focused and summarize the study better. Sometimes I get too excited about what we are learning and forget that they are only 5 and 6. They don’t need to become experts!
We are also starting a study on Easter this week. For the past week we have been reading about Jesus’ last week of life on Earth. I have used YouTube a couple of times and that is always a great supplement to any study. Today we read about Jesus washing the disciples feet and a little bit about the last supper:
I hope to do a Lapbook for this study too and then conclude the study with a dramatic activity with the help of some friends. We are also working on memory verses for this study (John 11:25 & Ephesians 2:8-10).
It’s been a productive day…but it’s only 2pm, so we have a lot more to do!
