I believe that humans learn better in context! As I have taught my children mathematical concepts I do it with this in mind. When I teach my baby boy to count I do it as we walk up the stairs or serve him grapes. When I was introducing the idea of fractions to my older boys I did it while serving pizza or cooking in the kitchen. Using this method help me show the boys how relevant and necessary math is!
This works well when teaching math in general, but then you get to points where drills and memorization are necessary. This is where I usually lose my boys! They don’t do well with drills and get bored quickly! Now that they understand multiplication and know when to use it, they have to memorize all the tables so that we can move on to more challenging math problems. Timez Attack helps them memorize math facts and answer them quickly and keeps it fun in the process! Best of all, Timez Attack is FREE!!
The improvement I have seen in the last two days is unbelievable! Best of all is the enthusiasm! My 5-year-old is excited about memorizing math facts! I think what gets them most of all is the challenge of beating the Ogre! 😀
The only down side is that it involves screen time, but I think, in this case, the benefits outweigh the costs!
