SchoolhouseTeachers.com is Amazing! – Review Crew

What sets SchoolhouseTeachers.com
apart from other curriculum? SchoolhouseTeachers.com
is a one-stop shop for the average homeschool family! What I love most about it is that it addresses the needs of the family holistically. As a member of the site you get unlimited access to educational material from the biggest names in homeschooling! If you love Unit Studies, Charlotte Mason, Worksheets or educational games, this program was made for you! The site also provides tools that you can use to better serve my family!
As a member of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine’s
(TOS) Review Crew I have had access to the site for the last week and it has been a blessing to our family! Best of all, it has complimented our curriculum and routines we already have in place.
The lessons and activities in the site are for children grades preK-12! The site is very user-friendly! We have tried and/or are currently in the midst of some of the lessons in the program! These include:
- Science Experiments
- Guitar lessons
- Writing Excercises
So far we have had the most fun doing our Literature lessons! We ordered the book of the month, The Cricket in Time Square
by George Selden. What I love most about the lessons is Adam Andrew’s style and philosophy. He discourages the use of worksheets! The questions and exercises he provides encourage discussion of ideas and teaches my children to challenge each other’s opinions! His questions encourage them to engage with the story and the author. My sons are learning principles and ideas that prepare them for more complex literature in the future and most of all develops skills they will use in other areas, such as:
- Not just having an opinion, but knowing how to articulate and defend their position.
- Being a good listener as they actively seek to understand their siblings during our discussions.
- The love of literature and words!
We also had fun with Science this week! I really like the experiments provided by Jason Lindsey from Hooked on Science.
Our favorite was the “Water Bottle Egg Experiment”, where they separated the yolk and the white using a water bottle. I know the kids loved it because they tried it over and over again and even made a game out of it! I like to teach my children science using hands-on activities! I want my children to find science fun! I want them to learn to ask THE question: “why?”. We have tried a couple of the experiments and love them! I know this program will work for us because:
- It captured everyone’s attention. My 6-year-old found it fun as well as my 9-year-old.
- I was able to do this experiment with things I already had in my kitchen! (this one’s a biggie 😉
- It was a simple and fun way to teach science principles (i.e. friction, air pressure, suction).
This curriculum provides enough for me to educate the whole-child, as Charlotte Mason would say! The site includes Spanish, French and Guitar lessons!
Guitar was one we were all excited about! My children love music! They all want to learn to play an instrument. As a mother of 5 children, music lessons can be difficult to provide. The Guitar lessons in the SchoolhouseTeachers.com
alone pay for the membership!
All my children, who are old enough, now have the opportunity to learn to play the guitar! We have bought new strings for our old guitar and are now ready for this new adventure! My oldest son already started his lessons! The lessons are easy to use and understand. It includes the lesson book and videos of the teacher! What an addition to our family! This can make a difference that will impact our children for a lifetime!
There were several things I found in the site that will greatly simplify my life as a homeschool mom and as a homemaker. These include:
- Recipes and a Meal Planner
- Checklist to help track the work completed in our homeschool
- Reading list of great books, that go with the theme of the month
Most important of all, with the membership to the site you get the TOS’s Planners for free! These are ideal for ANY homeschool family! It has more than 800 pages of schedules, chore charts, menu planning charts, calendars and other forms, each coming in different styles and formats! I can’t say enough about this amazing tool that will enhance the way you educate and manage your household!
