I was given the opportunity to review Simplified Pantry. The Crew was asked to review 3 of Mystie Winckler’s ebooks:
I picked Paperless Home Organization as the one to focus on and review.
Organization is something I have been wanting to develop for a long time, especially now that I have a large family and homeschool. Unfortunately, it is has never been something that comes easy to me. I felt refreshed when I read these words in Mystie Winckler’s book:
Organization is more like laundry and dishes than like a craft project: It is never complete. It is like swimming. You are either treading water or slowly sinking; progress is getting yourself back to the surface before you drown, not arriving at a destination. However, treading water at least becomes easier the longer you do it.
This was so freeing for me! I have always treated it (organization) as a destination and now understand why it’s been such a frustrating venture! I will always be working on it! It’s a life-long process! Reading this early in the book made the whole process enjoyable and less of a chore.
Mystie Wincker is a homeschool mother of 5 kids. She has spent the last 11 years working on home management binders. Throughout the years she has discovered the benefits of taking advantage of electronic gadgets and making the binder paperless! She shares the benefits of going paperless:
- All the information would be easy to find, using the program’s search function.
- Easier to collaborate with husband and family members, by sharing the binder online.
- No need for space, paper…less clutter.
I started a home management binder years ago. I love the idea of consolidating it and using my cell phone and tablet for it instead. This has made my binder much more easy to refer to and update as I carry it around with me everywhere I go!
In the management binder I keep everything needed to manage my home and homeschool, like:
- Every child’s routine
- Monthly Menu Plan
- and more
What I like the most about Wickler’s approach and why I am sticking with it is because she goes deep more than she does wide. She has you focus on 3 free apps/websites: Gmail, Remember the Milk and Evernote. I have been using all 3 of these for years. After reading her book I realize how little I knew about each of these. Using simple language and screen shots, she tell you how to set up each of these programs to better serve your purpose (i.e. tags, categories, etc). I especially like how she explains how to set each of these to interact with each other. For example, I can see my task list (Remember the Milk) right in my Google Calendar.
As I continue to work on my paperless home management binder I will continue to post about it and share my own screen shots! Read this book for yourself and find the freedom your own binder will bring! Download her book for just $3.99!
