“It is estimated that 43% of all women will have at least 1 abortion before they are 45 years old”*. The moment an abortion happens begins a lifelong journey for the women and men involved, usually experienced in silence.
The feelings of guilt and shame consume many. The fear of rejection and judgment keep many men and women from reaching out for help from family and especially their church.
Is it possible that our passion and zeal for the pro-life movement is overshadowing our core message of grace and forgiveness?
In their song, “Jesus, friend of sinners”, Casting Crowns asks a poignant question: “What if we put down our signs crossed over the lines and loved like You did?”
Over 1 million abortions are performed every year in the United States**. Unfortunately, the harvest is plenty, but what an awesome opportunity for each of us to love like Christ and embody Jesus’ message of mercy, forgiveness and hope!
Let’s Pause for Prayer:
We come to you with broken hearts and in a spirit of repentance. Your Word says we have all sinned and we fall short of Your glory! Your Word also says that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive them and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We rest on this promise and in it find the peace that only You can give us.
Keep the grace and mercy you so abundantly offer us in the forefront of our minds. Let it humble us so that we learn to see others with eyes of love and compassion. When we converse with others in our homes, workplace or at church about political issues like abortion, let our conversations be always full of grace and seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:3). Help us to carry ourselves in such a way that makes us approachable. Let us be an ear to hear and a prayer warrior for women and men around us who have been touched by abortion,
Finally, Lord, if we are given the opportunity, let us hide behind your cross and use our words to point them to your open arms.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen
