Mother’s Day gives me a special opportunity to show appreciation for my own mother and grandmother. I have learned so much from them and hope to have on my own daughters the powerful impact they have had on me.
My grandmother to me represents strength and resourcefulness. She raised 6 children as a single mother in Dominican Republic. She managed to do so much with so little. I learn from her resourcefulness and her refusal to give up, in spite of her circumstances. She gave and worked so much to make sure that her children grew to live to their full potential.
I will always be thankful for my own mother. My mother is and has always been my best friend. I pray I am to my children what she is to me. She has always been a listening ear. The strength of our relationship through the teenage years and into adulthood stems from her understanding the importance of building relationships with her children and always being intentional.
My mother gave up so much to move to this country in search of better opportunities for her children. Her sacrifices and hard work have had generational impact. I see my children now and the privileges they enjoy today and know that much of it would not have been possible without her sacrifices.
She has poured so much into me, as a women, wife and mother. I will make sure that her influence on me will bless generations to come, in the children that I raise and in the people that I touch throughout my life.
Most of us have parents that have sacrifices and invested so much into our lives. Let’s make sure to let our mothers know the difference their love and teachings have had in our lives and the impact they are having in and through us.
What one thing did you mother do in raising you that has had the most generational impact on you?
