Who would ever think that making yogurt at home is so simple! I don’t think I have made something as tasty and comforting! I learned to make it several months ago and I even figured a way to get it smoother and thicker! It’s a much healthier comfort food to enjoy after I put the kids to bed and want to just relax!

Try it just once and you will never buy store yogurt again!

What You Need:

  • Milk (I try to get organic or raw whole milk)
  • Heating pad (make sure it is one that stays on. Some automatically turn off after a certain time)
  • Cooking thermometer
  • Pot
  • Storage container
  • Timer
  • Plain Yogurt

Pour milk into Pot. Place thermometer in the milk. Heat the pot. When the temperature reaches at least 180 degrees start the timer. Keep at this temperature for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. After 30 minutes places pot in ice water or very cold water. Stir and bring milk down to 100 degrees. When milk is at this temperature add 3 tablespoons of Plain Yogurt and stir.

Pour milk in the container you will store it in, place lid on top without completely closing it, and place on the heating pad. Turn heating pad on. Leave on the heating pad for at least 4 hours. The longer you leave it on the heating pad the more tart it will be. I leave it on for about 7 hours.

Tips:

If you want the yogurt to be thick, make sure to add the starter yogurt at 100 degrees. After you stir and pour in storage container do not disturb! When the 4-7 hours go by, cover the container and place it in the fridge. Do not shake or stir until the 4-7 hours have passed.

What makes this yogurt great is that you get to control the fruits and sweeteners that are added.

Try it and let me know what you think!!
